PHILOSOPHY

VARIABLE STANDARD is a multidisciplinary studio exploring the intersection of performance, form, and process.

Founded in 2014, the studio began with a single object: a performance towel balancing technical function with tactile, material-driven design. Over time, the work evolved through an ongoing study of utility, movement, and material transformation.

Each piece is designed and developed in Philadelphia. Technical textiles are treated through layered processes of pigment, sublimation, garment dye, and hand application. Repetition does not produce uniformity. Material, process, and circumstance introduce variation from one piece to the next.

VARIABLE STANDARD exists within this tension: consistency and variation, control and instinct, system and anomaly. The standard provides the structure. The variable is what gives each object its presence.

The work is not organized around seasons or trends. It is an evolving system of wearable tools—made for movement, shaped through process, and designed to exist beyond a single context.
